Smitty best in Women's National Twenty20 Final PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 25 January 2010

Our own Clea Smith received the Player Of The Match/Best on Ground (BOG) in the Vic Spirit's recent win over the NSW Breakers in the final of the national t20 competition!

Smitty, Crackers and Beamsy were a part of history as the Spirit took out the first Women's Twenty20 Title ever in a stunning display which saw the Vics win by 52 runs.

Victoria posted a total of 128 and while a gettable target for the NSW team who have a host of Aussie and experienced players, they never got close with a Smitty and Julie Hunter putting the Breakers on the rope from the word go.

In Smitty's Player of the Match performance, she claimed 2/15 off her 4 overs which included the wickets of Alyssa Healy and Alex Blackwell in her first over which really put NSW on the backfoot. This allowed all the other bowlers to bowl attackingly, and Crack also finished up with 2/15 off her four, removing Lisa Sthalekar and Kate Blackwell. Beamsy only needed one over to get her one wicket which finished off the Breakers, bowled out for just 75!

What a super effort girls!

After disposing of Dandenong in the 1s, we all raced back to the Bomber Box and watched the girls attentively on Foxtel (even though a few of us already knew the result). It was fun listening to Beamsy get sledged by commentator Jones, Bobby's commentary was also something to hear/witness and of course watching the big victory and celebrating every boundary scored and wicket taken! It was a bit weird seeing Crack, Smit and Beams on TV and Reens got a bit emotional when ‘little Bree' did her interview post match!

And to cap things off the Bushrangers had a win against SA following the girls game and some photos are floating around which have Dwayne Bravo and Crackers front and center...ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh. Also for those who are super keen, if you go to www.vicspirit.com.au there is a video of Pete Lazer interviewing Smitty.

Congratulations to the 3 Bomber Vics who worked hard for this victory. However there is still one to go when the girls take on NSW again this weekend in the 50 over WNCL competition final at the MCG.

Get down and support if you can!
